Roy Louis Bohres passed away on April 13, 2024, after suffering a broken hip in early-December 2023, just before his 88th birthday. Roy was a rare Florida native, growing up in Miami, though moving to Jacksonville in 2010 with his wife, Anita, to be with their son and grandchildren. He attended Edison High School, then enlisted and served three years in the Army after graduating. Roy returned to his studies at the University of Miami, before moving on to, and graduating from, Barry College (now Barry University). Roy had a lengthy career of about 40 years in the telecommunications industry, mostly with Southern Bell/AT&T.  He loved the Hurricanes and Dolphins and was an avid history buff, but no love was greater than his love of family and friends. Roy was married to Anita “Sissy” (Lewis) for over 50 years. She precedes him in death, and their reunion with his passing is certainly something about which to be joyous. Roy is also preceded in death by his parents, Hank & Florence, and his younger brother, John.

Roy left behind many loved ones, most poignantly his son, Paul, daughter-in-law, Sharon (Fixler), and his three grandchildren Mia, Evan and Luke. Thanks to his grandchildren, Roy became “Pop”, which is how he was best known to all over the last 14 years in Jacksonville. As Paul notes, his Dad was a patient, kind, ever-present father. Pop was always present and ready to throw a football or baseball with Paul, and a constant super fan attending nearly every game. This support continued with his grandchildren, as he cheered them on poolside or sidelines. He enjoyed reminiscing and told many, many stories, over just as many family dinners. While saddened to have lost this great man, we are happy he has gained peace and comfort, and is now reunited with those souls he has missed.

The funeral mass for Roy will take place on Monday, April 29 at 11 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church - 127 Stonemason Way, Ponte Vedra, FL 32081, followed by the interment 1:30 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery - 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to either of the following causes: Five STAR Veterans Center or St. John Paul II Catholic Church Capital Campaign in memory of Roy Bohres.
