Alan Gabriel Kaplan was born in 1938 in Massachusetts and passed away February 28, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy, of 65 years.

A graduate of the University of Miami in Business Administration, he spent his career in managerial positions in the paper products industry, including owning the Miami Paper Company, which exported products internationally.

While living in Marco Island in the late 1990s, he and his wife founded the Naples Jewish Center.  Alan and Sandy were members of the reformed Jewish faith.

He spent most of his life in Florida, eventually settling in North Carolina before making their home in St. Augustine 10 years ago.

He and Sandy will best be remembered as philanthropists, creating educational foundations and donating generously, establishing scholarship programs for students in need with the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Warren Wilson College in North Carolina, University of Miami, Florida Gulf Coast University, and St. Johns River College. They created a number of non-profit charitable foundations, were deeply involved in the lmmokalee Foundation in Naples, and donated locally, including Habitat for Humanity, Community Hospice, and public television. They provided the funds for a butterfly garden as well as other projects in Cascades of World Golf Village, where they lived, and supported a local veteran's organization and made generous donations to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in St. Augustine and other community organizations.

Alan traveled the world extensively with his wife, was a licensed pilot, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and photography.

Along with Sandy, Alan is survived by Don Del Bello, in his words, "the son they never had" as well as countless dear friends.
