Alexander J. Shumay, 70, died Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Alex was born on June 21, 1951, in Indiana, Pennsylvania to Alexander A. Shumay and Mary J. Shumay. Alex graduated from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio and master’s degree in economics from Ohio State. IBM’s enticing offer was enough to convince to forgo his PhD in Economics even though he was close to completion. The decision proved correct as he enjoyed a long successful career at IBM. Alex travelled the world directing IBM acquisitions and mergers in China, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and Germany among other places. Alex enjoyed aviation and completed the rigorous training necessary to rise to Flight Instructor for small planes. Alex was an ardent supporter and benefactor to many organizations, but his strongest passion was for Feeding Northeast Florida. Alex is survived by his wife, Laura L. Shumay; son, Alex Shumay, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; brother-in law, Brian Kirby, Clovis, California; brother, Robert G. Shumay (Michung) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; sister, Cheryl Renee Tubbs (Brian), Davidson, North Carolina; nephews, Sean Kirby, Clovis, California, Nick Tubbs, Cleveland, Ohio and Zack Tubbs, Cleveland, Ohio; nieces, Cassandra Tubbs, Boston, Massachusetts and Melissa Tubbs, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
