Andrew “Andy” Peter DePirro, 87, of Ponte Vedra, Florida, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by the love, prayers, and presence of his family.
Born on April 10, 1939, in Brooklyn, Andy grew up with the values that would define his entire life: faith, family, loyalty, and hard work. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served his country with honor before returning home to begin the next chapter of his life.
One evening, at a dance at Saint Fortunata Church, Andy met a young woman named Helen — the woman who would become the love of his life. What began as a simple introduction, asking her to dance with him, blossomed into a remarkable love story that spanned 65 years together, including 63 years of marriage. Their marriage was a living example of devotion, partnership, and Christ centered love. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the kind of steady, enduring affection that shaped generations.
Andy was a loving and dedicated father to three children — Drew, Patrick, and Dawn — and he approached fatherhood with the same quiet strength that defined him. He was always present, always supportive, and always putting his family first. He was the kind of man who would give you the better seat, the better meal, or even the better item at the store… sometimes with the help of a “strategically relocated” price sticker. His love was practical, thoughtful, and constant.
Professionally, Andy built a long and respected career. He worked for Dayton T. Brown in New York before moving to Florida, where he continued his work with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida for 27 years. He was known for his reliability, integrity, and the pride he took in doing things the right way.
Andy’s life was rich with simple joys and meaningful routines. He loved his faith, cooking, family gatherings, golf, spending time with Helen, reading the newspaper, and completing his crossword puzzles. These were not just hobbies — they were expressions of who he was: a man who found joy in the everyday blessings God placed before him.
Helen was the Love of his life. Their love was steady, loyal, patient, and life giving — a bond so strong that even in his final moments, her voice and touch brought him comfort and strength. Their marriage became the blueprint for their children and grandchildren, a living example of what it means to love selflessly and faithfully.
Andy’s faith guided him throughout his life. He lived the words of 1 Corinthians 13:7:
“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
And in his final days, his family held onto the promise of Psalm 73:26:
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
We take comfort knowing he is now at peace in God’s eternal embrace.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Helen of 63 years, his three children Drew (Rita), Patrick (Didi), Dawn (Clay), 12 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends who loved him deeply and were blessed by his presence.
