Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Moye, 89, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 1, 1931, in Baltimore, MD, to Charles Francis Cannon and Emma (Koch) Cannon. Betty married Ret. USN Cdr. William Belmont Moye, Jr., and spent the next 57 years together, until his passing in 2008.  Her family was the most important thing to her; she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Betty was affectionately known as Nanny by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Betty loved cooking for her family every chance that she could, especially during the holidays and birthdays.

Betty was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, FL.  She served the church in numerous capacities. Beginning in 1977, Betty took on her first leadership role as President of the St. Paul’s PTA. She went on to serve as President of the South Jacksonville Deanery and President of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. During one of several meetings Betty was sitting alone upfront waiting for the meeting to start when someone commented to Father Kelly that she looks like a queen sitting there.  She would forever be loving known as The Queen by her Catholic family. Betty was a Board member of the Florida Council of Catholic Women and was a member of the Bishop’s Council from 1980 to 2000, under Bishop John J. Snyder. She led the St. Paul's Right of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and Baptismal Preparation programs from 1989 to 2009.

She is survived by eight children, Ret. USN Cpt. William C. Moye, Elizabeth A. McCoy, John H. Moye, Robert W. Moye, Susan K. Powell, Joseph D. Moye, Patricia M. Trousdell, Amy C. McNulty; 26 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. A limited-family Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Friday, April 24, 2020, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 435 1st Avenue North, Jacksonville Beach, FL, 32250, with interment to follow at Ponte Vedra Valley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s name to the North Florida School of Special Education, 223 Mill Creek Rd., Jacksonville, FL, 32211.
