Barbara Shields Kline of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (previously, Corona del Mar, CA) passed away unexpectedly on Saturday March 9th, 2019. Barbara was born on November 23, 1943, in Panama City, FL, to the late Benjamin and Alma Shields of Jacksonville, FL. As the daughter of an Air Force officer, her childhood was shaped by moving from place-to-place including Alexandria, VA, Rome, Italy, Montgomery, AL, Tampa, FL, and Lake Charles, LA, before graduating from high school in Bossier City, LA, where she met and married Melton Perkins. Her travels continued through her marriage to Naval officer, John Hargrave, and after returning from a tour of duty in Spain, she earned her dental hygiene degree and practiced for 20 years in Bethesda, MD.

A loving daughter, sister, spouse, and mother, Barbara was known as a loyal friend who brought joy and light to all of her relationships. Most renowned for living life to the fullest, Barbara (also known as BB) was a true free spirit, filled with boundless energy and optimism. She defined being young at heart and her friends from all over the world were fortunate to experience her love of adventure and spontaneity. She was also competitor and an athlete, who relished her time on tennis courts and ski slopes. You could most recently find her playing duplicate bridge, a passion that connected her to many new friends, after she relocated to Ponte Vedra Beach in 2017.

Barbara is survived by her son, Michael Perkins of Houston, TX, and two daughters, Susan Miller (Steve Miller) of Round Rock, TX, and Jennifer Geric (Chris Geric) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. ‘Momma B’ nurtured six grandchildren, Erik Miller, Taylor Williams (George Williams), Morgan Guyton (Johnathan Guyton), Ella Geric, Audrey Geric, and Violet Geric; and three great grandsons, Brady Guyton, Wyatt Williams, and Weston Williams.  She is also survived by her brother, Van Shields (Peggy Rivers), and her two sisters, Suzanne Dixon (Steve Dixon) and Laurie Dunbar Shields. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Harry Kline, and her sister, Catherine Shields.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 25, 9:30 am at St. John's Cathedral, 256 East Church Street, Jacksonville, Florida, 32202, followed by a Graveside Service at 11 am, on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
