Carlton E. McNeil (Carl), 80, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at his home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on October 31, 1942, in Roanoke Rapids, NC, to Ruby and Carl McNeil. Carl graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and then began working with his brother Jack to help build the family business. He specialized in the Graphic Arts of Lithography and Printing, and saw the industry evolve from hand craftmanship into the digital era.
He dedicated his life to his wife, Katherine (Penny) McNeil, and also to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Carl regularly attended and donated to his church, and invited everyone he knew to join him for Sunday Service. He supported the endeavors of his children, encouraged them into activities and sports and contributed as assistant coach.
He enjoyed classic racecars, working on cars, and watching racing on television. He liked traveling and sight-seeing with his wife. He was fascinated by military machines, aircraft, the space program and all the histories of their engineering and use. He loved comedy and humor and ice cream with a good action movie.
Carl is survived by two sons, Jason McNeil and Ryan McNeil; daughter-in-law, Emily McNeil; and grandson, Connor McNeil; two sisters, Betty Stallings and Nancy Hewitt; one brother, James (Otis) McNeil; and several nieces, nephews and loving in-laws. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Katherine (Penny) McNeil; his parents, Carl & Ruby McNeil; two brothers, Jack and Bobby McNeil; and one sister, Grady Shell.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 3rd from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Ponte Vedra Valley. Service and Burial will follow on Tuesday, April 4th at 1:00pm also at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home & Cemetery.
