Carol Orr Tibbetts, 89, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Nov. 10, 2017, after a long illness.  Carol was born to Dwight and Lucille Orr on Oct. 28, 1928, in Taylorville, IL.

Carol attended Millikin University in Decatur, IL, where she studied music.  It was while at Millikin that she met her husband, Richard M. Fleming.  Carol and Dick had two children, Lucy Ann and John Brendan, and spent their early years of married life in Aurora, IL.  Carol was a stay at home Mom until her children were teenagers, at which time she first entered the business field.  She started with the Southern Baptist Convention while living in Louisville, KY.  After moving back to the Chicago area, she worked for Kelly Girl Services, where she was placed with Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, IL.  Carol worked her way up to Director of Materials Management and retired in the early 90’s.

After the passing of her husband Dick, she moved to Ponte Vedra.  During that time, she was reacquainted with her high school friend, Fred W. Tibbetts.  Carol and Fred were married in 1999.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard M. Fleming, her daughter, Lucy Ann Fleming, sister, Jane Orr, and her second husband, Fred W. Tibbetts.  She is survived by her son, John B. Fleming (Linda Greene); granddaughter, Taylor G. Fleming; her sisters, Joyce Dickey, Roberta Thiele (Alan), Kathy James (Tom); her brother, David Orr (Kim); and her stepsons, Tyler Tibbetts (Paula) and Eric Tibbetts (Susan).

Carol was very involved with Sawgrass Players Club Women’s Association, Friends of the Library and P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter EV and a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Her family would like to thank Dr.’s Alice Reed, William Wainright and George Schoonover for their passionate medical care over the years.  We would also like to thank Laura, Ida, Linda and Liuba for the care and companionship they devoted to Carol over the past few years.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 21st at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra Beach.  In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a contribution in Carol’s name to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
