Carole Ackerson Bertisch died surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Born in New York City on November 7, 1934, to Harry and Jean Ackerson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Bertisch in 2014.
After graduating from Syracuse University, Carole became a teacher in Long Island NY and then later became English facilitator and writing coordinator for the Rye Neck School District in Westchester County New York. An author and poet, she wrote four books: Who Waves the Baton, Walking to the Beat, The Twelfth of Never, and On The Rocks.
Carole was the Chair of the St. Johns County Library Advisory Board, former President of the Friends of the Library, Poetry Chair of the Florida Heritage Book Festival. She was a founding member of A Gathering of Poets and the Bird Island Park Board of Directors. She enjoyed playing bridge and later in life, painting. A former resident of Rye Brook, NY and West Dover, VT, she was also a member of Marsh Landing Country Club and the Lodge & Club.
Carole is survived by her adored family: sons, Andrew (Charlotte) and Michael (Alison); grandchildren, Madeleine (Steven), Jeremy, Jamie(Kyle), Kristen (Drew); and great grandchild, Addison.
