Carolyn “Carrie” Cloud (Tiemann) - Carrie Cloud, 77, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, passed away on January 15, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, from COVID-19 complications.
On Friday, February 5, 2021, the family of Carrie will be receiving friends and family from 4:00 – 5:00 pm with a short Memorial Service beginning at 5:00. A livestream of the entire service may be accessed at the funeral home website of Ponte Vedra Valley, directly on Carrie’s obituary page: https://www.pontevedravalley.com/obituaries/carolyn-cloud. Carrie’s wishes were to be cremated. Her ashes will be scattered with her husband’s, Duane Cloud, in the Florida Keys so they can go snorkeling together again after his passing.
Carrie was born October 9, 1943, the daughter of Bertha and Leon Tiemann in Warsaw, IL. She graduated from Warsaw High School. Carrie was united in marriage to William Duane Cloud on Dec. 22, 1962, in Keokuk, IA, in the middle of a beautiful snowstorm. They were blessed to celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary together at one of their favorite restaurants, right before she fell ill with COVID-19.
Carrie was a teacher’s aide in the Fort Madison elementary school system. She retired from her profession when she and Duane moved to Florida. Her passions included: taking care of her family—always a hot meal together at dinner, favorite “race” day breakfasts, cheering her daughters on at their sporting events—she was their number one fan. Carrie was also a talented artist. She first starting painting on driftwood and then changed her medium to painting on glass windows. She shared her love of holidays with others, decorating to the nines as well as dressing up for every holiday. She was a member of the Palm Valley Baptist Church.
When Carrie’s dementia progressed, she moved into the Memory Care of Harbor Chase in October 2018. She enjoyed playing bingo (SHE was the BINGO BABE!), dancing, coloring, and exercising with her fellow residents. Her caretakers did a wonderful job of taking care of her and loving her up. Special thanks to Dana, Lawanda, Karen, DeeDee and Connie of Harbor Chase.
Carrie was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her husband, Duane Cloud; her daughters, Kristan (Ed) Malin of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Brenda (Greg) Cloud of Cedar Rapids, IA; sisters, Ruth (Joe) Rose, Theresa (Buck) Cameron; brothers, Bill (Sue) Tiemann, Tom (Mary Jane) Tiemann; and many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved and was always the “fun aunt.” She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Steve (Connie) Cloud. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bud (Donnie) and Dick (Bea) Tiemann; two sisters, Charlotte Betts, Shirley Glover; and two very special aunts to her Irma Fleming and Helen Kraushaar. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Bill and Doris Cloud; as well as one sister-in-law, Anita Corvia.
In honor of Carrie, we invite you to celebrate all holidays with her spirited love for all holidays in mind. Memorials may be made to a foundation to help support those going through breast cancer treatment: Two Titmice Foundation (TwoTitmiceFoundation.com) or the Dementia Association (www.dementiasociety.org/)
