Carolyn Jo Lansdale passed away on April 16, 2023, at the age of 82.  She was on a Trans-Atlantic cruise with her husband, Peter, where she died peacefully in her sleep. Carolyn was born on March 16, 1941, in Calvert City Kentucky, and raised in Oak Ridge & Oliver Springs, TN.

She attended Bluefield College in VA before moving to the Washington, D.C. area, where she started her career working at Headquarters U.S. Marines, in Arlington, VA. Soon thereafter, she accepted a position with the U.S. Navy at the Pentagon.  Eventually Carolyn went back to work at the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston, VA, before completing her 20-year career as a Legislative Specialist at the Department of Interior in Washington, D.C.

Carolyn and Peter were married in 1965 in Arlington, VA.  After the birth of their daughter and son, they moved to Fairfax, VA, and eventually settled in Vienna, VA, where they raised their family.  In 1997, the couple moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Carolyn became involved in numerous activities including the Newcomer’s Club, playing Bridge and Canasta, starting a book club, and serving as President of The Ponte Vedra Woman’s Club.  In those years she had a fondness for travel with Peter while visiting over 55 different countries.  Her sense of adventure lead her to skydiving at 81 years old with her 18-year-old granddaughter Alexis.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, James and Violet Harrell; her sister, Elizabeth Perry; and her brother, Lewis Harrell.  She is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Peter Lansdale; her daughter, Stephanie Lansdale; and son, James Lansdale (and wife, Joyce); grandchildren Alexis, Taylor, and Reese Lansdale; sister, Irene Crone; niece, Cindy Walker (and husband, Randy, son, Jeremy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, caring mother, dotting grandmother, devoted sister, aunt and sister-in-law, loyal friend, and a sweet, happy, and gentle spirit full of grace and generosity. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
