With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel J. Meyer, who went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2025—just three weeks after celebrating his 81st birthday.
Daniel was born on March 8, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, to John W. Meyer and June C. Kreiger. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Meyer, and his children: Daniel J. Meyer, Steven E. Meyer, Denise Vossmeyer (Dave), Kristin Meyer, Karl Meyer (Alla), and Thomas L. Meyer. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy L. Meyer. Daniel’s legacy lives on through his 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five sisters, and four brothers.
In the 1960s, Daniel attended chef school, later exploring a variety of careers, including owning a restaurant and bar in Clearwater, FL. His longest and most impactful role was as a Field Service Engineer from 1980 to 2003 for Xerox, where he worked across Lower Manhattan, Long Island, Southern Georgia, and Northern Florida. A natural problem-solver, he had an innate ability to tinker with any piece of equipment or technology that came his way.
A passionate traveler, Daniel and Cathy shared a lifelong adventure, visiting all 50 U.S. states, every Caribbean island, and every Canadian province—except Newfoundland. Their journeys extended across Central and South America, even reaching the Galápagos Islands. In search of his heritage, Daniel extensively explored Western Europe, tracing his roots through England, Ireland, Scotland, and Germany, while also experiencing the rich history and cultures of France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. His love for discovery even took him beyond Europe, venturing into North Africa through Morocco and the Canary Islands. Together, they embarked on nearly 38 cruises, but none were as memorable as his favorite, which departed from San Francisco and sailed through the breathtaking landscapes of Hawaii, Moorea, Tahiti, Bora Bora, French Polynesia, American Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia.
Daniel’s love for the open road was just as strong as his love for the sea. He took great pride in his 1975 GMC Glenbrook motorhome, spending countless hours maintaining and driving it. A dedicated member of the GMC International Club and the GMC Sunshine Statesmen for 26 years, he served as GMCSS Vice President (2020–2021) and President (2021–2023). He was also the webmaster for GMCSS. When he wasn’t on the road, he could be found in his beloved red barn, working on his vintage 1934 Ford pickup or perfecting his motorhome.
Daniel’s legacy is one of adventure, curiosity, and a deep love for family. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
