Daniel J. Picciano Jr., 81, originally from Jeannette, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in Jacksonville, FL. Born September 27th, 1942, he was the son of the late Daniel and Helen Picciano. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Lawrence Picciano. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marcia (Kemerer) Picciano; his children: Dan (Pam), Marc (Debbie), Sean (Yajaira), and Amy Parris (Pat); sisters: Janice McClain, Nancy (Lee) Zimmerman, and Irene Ferrainolo; sisters-in-law: Caren Picciano and Janis (Carey) Donegan; grandchildren: Daniel, Ashley, Emily, Joshua, Jamie, Anthony, Ana Lena, Miranda, and Sean; and many nieces and nephews.
Dan was an outstanding student athlete, graduating from Jeannette High School and continuing his education and athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a bachelor’s in science and a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degrees while a member of the football team. After graduating from dental school, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Following his time in the Army, he opened his own dental practice in Latrobe, PA where he served his patients and the community for 35 years. Dan was an active member in the community with his children’s athletic activities and local service organizations. Upon retirement, Dan and Marcia moved to Okatie (Hilton Head), SC where he enjoyed golfing, playing cards, cheering on the Steelers, Panthers, Penguins and Pirates and spending time with friends in the community.
His memorial Mass will be held on June 22nd, 2024, at 11:00am at Our Lady Star of the Sea, in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org) in support of all those who serve us each and every day.
