Dennis Birch Robertson of Vicar’s Landing at Oak Bridge, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL died October 11, 2024, due to complications from Parkinson’s.  He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Sally, their children Scott (Tamara), Alex (Donna) and Tracy Scott (Norris) as well as grandchildren Charlie and Thomas Scott.  Also surviving are his brother Ken (Joanie), sister-in-law Susan Sumner and brother-in-law Eric Schlachter (Kathryn) as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Hayes and Louise Buckman Robertson.

Denny lived a wonderful life.  While grieving, his family hopes you break into a smile remembering moments of sharp wit, funny observations and his genuine love for family and friends.  Some of his friendships lasted literally a lifetime.  Whether on a golf course, ski slope, tennis court, dinner party or just in passing, you could always count having fun with Denny.  He and Sally raised their family in the same home where he grew up.  During his roughly 60 years at 1421 Braeburn in Flossmoor, IL, Denny must have played golf and tennis on the same course and courts hundreds of times as a child and an adult with Sally, his parents and his children.

He attended Culver Military Academy, graduated from Bloom Township High School, Denison University (Beta Theta Pi) and the University of Michigan (Phi Delta Phi) for an MBA and part of a law degree, finishing it with a JD from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago.

Denny’s career was for the most part spent in the food service business beginning with executive positions with Szabo Food Service.  He went on to be a Sizzler Family Steakhouse franchisee and a fish company owner and franchisor.

Some of Denny’s best years were when he and Sally moved full time to Arrowhead at Vail in Colorado where they were volunteers on Beaver Creek Mountain and not only made new lasting friends but reunited with long time pals.  When giving tours of the mountain he had a sense of pride as if he were giving a friend a tour of his new house.  They subsequently moved to Rio Verde, Arizona then finally to Vicar’s Landing in Florida. At each place they made lasting friendships.

Denny served on the board and as president of Flossmoor Country Club and chairman of its 100th anniversary celebration, was a member of the Western Golf Association, and a board member of the Country Club of the Rockies.  He also was on the boards of Vicorp, the Arrowhead Community Association and the Rio Verde Community Association.

To honor Denny’s memory, if you wish, he loved these organizations.
