Dennis M. Guthrie, 66, of St. Augustine, FL passed away unexpectedly from a medical emergency on Friday, August 12, 2022. Born on July 11, 1956, in Quincy, IL, to Carl and Bertha (Powell) Guthrie, he married Cindy T. Hammers on October 13, 1979, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Quincy. She survives.

A devoted family man, Dennis raised his family in the house that he built himself with Cindy and his father, Carl, who was a home builder by trade. After 34 years living in that wonderful house, Dennis and Cindy moved to St. Augustine in 2015. The warmth and sunshine of Florida provided seven happy years as Dennis was able to work in his lawn year-round on his John Deere tractor, watch his grandchildren join the family and outfit his dream home office where he was able to watch his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, listen to his favorite albums, read, and continue to serve his customers and colleagues at work. His warm smile and gentle demeanor led to great success and countless friendships during his 50-year career in the grocery and food service industries. The strength of the relationships he built make saying goodbye all the more difficult.

He will lovingly be remembered by his sons, Zachary Guthrie (Kellie) of Ponte Vedra, FL, and Lukas Guthrie (Kaitlyn) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; sister, Kay McCaughey (Dave) of Peoria, AZ; mother-in-law, Barb Hammers of St. Johns, FL; four grandchildren, Tinsley Guthrie, Ford Guthrie, Miller Guthrie, and a granddaughter to be born soon; three nephews, Kevin McCaughey, Ryan McCaughey (Michelle), and Eric McCaughey (Jennifer).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Thursday, September 8, 2022. Burial and reception to follow at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
