Dennis O'Gara, 76, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 30, 1950, and raised in the Bronx, New York, Dennis graduated from Baruch College in Manhattan. He went on to build an extraordinary career in corporate America, serving in executive leadership roles, including as CEO of multiple companies, throughout a career spanning more than four decades. A natural leader, Dennis was known for his resilience, determination, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He retired in 2016 and moved to St. Augustine, Florida, where he embraced the next chapter of his life surrounded by family, faith, and friends.
While Dennis achieved tremendous professional success, his greatest accomplishments were found in the life he built with his beloved wife of 51 years, Karen, and the family they raised together. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and devotion. No matter how busy life became, Dennis insisted on Saturday date nights with Karen, a cherished tradition that reflected the importance he placed on their relationship.
Dennis was a man of deep and unwavering Catholic faith. From his early days as an altar boy to his lifelong commitment to attending Mass, his faith was the foundation upon which he built his life. His home was often filled with family, friends, and even priests who joined him for Sunday dinners. He taught high school religious education classes at Holy Family Catholic Church and worked to instill the same strong faith and values in his children. He also gave back to his community by coaching Little League, where he shared his time, encouragement, and guidance with young athletes.
Those fortunate enough to know Dennis will remember a man whose personality could fill any room. He was a fantastic storyteller, a devoted New York Mets and Giants fan, an enthusiastic host, and a wonderful cook who found great joy in bringing people together. His home was always open, his table always had room for one more, and he made certain that no one ever had to spend a holiday alone. He never knew a stranger, and countless friends of his children came to regard him as a second father.
Dennis had a remarkable gift for making people laugh. Whether sharing one of his unforgettable stories or delivering one of his beloved dad jokes, he brought humor, warmth, and joy to those around him. His resilience was extraordinary, and his generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Above all, Dennis loved his family. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren and took immense pride in watching his family grow. When asked what he wanted for a birthday, Christmas, or any other occasion, his answer was always the same: for his children to love one another. It was a simple wish that spoke volumes about the man he was and the legacy he leaves behind.
Dennis will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the love he gave so freely, the faith he demonstrated so consistently, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Michael O'Gara; his mother, Martha O'Gara Holmes; and his brothers, John O'Gara and Robert O'Gara.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Karen O'Gara; his four children, Jennifer Aga (Alem), Dennis O'Gara (Rebecca), Stephanie Chambers (Alan), and Melissa Callender (Adam); his brothers, Terry O'Gara and Michael O'Gara; and his ten cherished grandchildren, Kierstin O'Gara, David O'Gara, Alex Chambers, Brianna O'Gara, Luke Chambers, Aiden Callender, Jacob Chambers, Gabby Aga, Olivia Callender, and Cameron Aga.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 127 Stonemason Way, Ponte Vedra, FL 32081.
Following Mass, we welcome you to Ponte Vedra Valley, 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082, where Dennis will be laid to rest.
We also welcome you back to our home at 2:00 p.m. for food, beverages, and an opportunity to continue celebrating the memories we have all shared with Dennis and our family.
