Douglas "Doug" Alex Powers

April 25, 1945 – March 23, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) Alex Powers, who went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2025, just shy of his 80th birthday. Doug was a longtime member of the Lake City, Florida, community before moving to St. Augustine in the late ’90s to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He attended Columbia High School and graduated from Howey-in-the-Hills Academy. A proud veteran, Doug served in the Air Force before returning to complete his education at the University of Florida, where he graduated with honors.

Doug was born on April 25, 1945, in Lake City, FL, the proud son of A.H. and Annie Laurie (Sappington) Powers. After graduating from the University of Florida, he married the love of his life, Anna Marie (Bochette) Powers, on February 28, 1969. They shared 46 wonderful years of marriage—built on faith, love, and devotion—before her passing on December 14, 2015. Together, they lived a God-centered, exemplary life, inspiring and making lasting memories with everyone who knew them.

Doug is survived by his loving sons, Alex and Matt; his cherished daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Abigail; and his adored grandchildren: Taylor, Bryce, Trey, Rebekah, Kaden, Blake, Mikah, Kolsen, and Sofia. He also leaves behind his best friend and beloved sister, Andrea Long, as well as his nieces, nephews, and the many friends he embraced throughout his life’s journey.

Doug was a man of strength, wisdom, and integrity, always leading by example and keeping faith and family at the center of his life. He loved Jesus, his wife, his family and friends, being a veteran, golf, hunting, fishing, and the Florida Gators. His legacy will continue to resonate through his children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace in the presence of the Lord.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home, located at 4750 Palm Valley Rd, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082
