Gerald Anthony Lyall Irwin, formerly of Massapequa Park, passed away on October 18, 2018. Gerald was born on November 28, 1926, in New York City.
Gerald was predeceased by Iris, his loving wife of 62 years. He was a devoted father to Glen, Peter and Gail; a cherished grandfather to Gregory, Jeffrey, Scott, Christopher and Caitlin; and a cherished great-grandfather to Gabriel; he was also a dear father-in-law to Jean, Mary and Paul.
Dr. Irwin was a World War II veteran, the former Chief of Radiology at Nassau County Medical Center, Norwalk Hospital and Winthrop University Hospital, and Professor of Radiology at SUNY Stony Brook.
Reposing at the Ponte Vedra Valley funeral home, 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, 32082, on Monday October 22, 2018, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2018, 2 pm, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 545 A1A North, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, 32082. Interment to follow at Ponte Vedra Valley immediately following the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Doctors Without Borders, the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity.
