“Absent from the body, present with the Lord”
Dr. Richard Lee Smith, born February 21, 1928 in Hamilton, OH, went home to Heaven on December 9, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, V. Edwin and Lucille Smith, and his brother, Charles. Richard graduated from The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He then went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a Captain and Physician, stationed in Nagoya, Japan. He returned to establish a Radiology Practice in Coral Gables, FL, and retired after 42 years.
His hobbies and interests included his love for the game of golf. This passion started as a young boy and continued as he Captained his golf team at the University of Cincinnati, which remained undefeated under his leadership. He went on to win numerous Club Championships over the course of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Claire; four wonderful children, Dr. Douglas (Pam) Smith, Dr. Philip (Candy) Smith, Julie Benz, Stephanie (Tim) Parker; 5 very special grandchildren.
We extend a special thanks to the Hospice Care unit at Viera Hospital in Melbourne, FL, during his last weeks of life on earth.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 14, at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home (Chapel): 1:00 - 2:00 pm Visitation, 2:00 - 3:00 pm Chapel Service, 3:00 - 3:30 pm Graveside.
