Emily De Baere from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in St. Augustine, Florida, on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the age of 105. She was born in Norway, Michigan, on March 18, 1917. Emily married August H. De Baere on August 3, 1940. They resided in Lake Como, Wisconsin.

Emily worked as a successful real estate agent for many years, retiring at the age of 75.  She was a talented artist, great bowler, avid card player, loved reading and LOVED scrabble.  Emily was a member of the Geneva Lake Art Association.

Emily’s outlook on life can be summed up in this quote from her years ago: “Keep interested in your surroundings and other people.  Think about others; not just yourself and be a friend.  God has blessed me.”

Emily is preceded in death by her husband, August H. De Baere and her son, Jimmie De Baere.  She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary (Thomas) De Muyt, John (Diane) De Baere, Thomas (Donna) De Baere; five grandchildren: Joseph, Joanne (Bud), Jason (Morgan), Adam (Amanda), Lissa (Craig) and Vallen; sixteen great grandchildren: Beau (Emma), Olivia (Sam), Eve, Spencer, Joseph Patrick, Jacqueline, Christopher, Harry, Weston, Aubrey, Austin, August, Aurmor, Abigail, Tessa and Lily; and one great, great grandchild, Laura.

A Mass will take place on Friday, August 26, at 10 am, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra.  Her final resting place will be in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, with a celebration of life with her family and friends, details will follow later.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Emily’s memory to Community Hospice and Palliative Care.

Ode to Emily by Margret Jacobsen, Emily’s Niece

No other lady could ever be

As special as dear Emily.

From daughter to wife to motherhood

Always doing the best she could.

Then on to Grandma, standing tall

Always sturdy, no wind could fall.

And when those kids had reproduced

Her status then was given a boost.

Now “GREAT” was added to “grandma” sweet

And then they surrounded her at her feet.

Indeed she is the oak tree staunch

From which the generations have been launched.

They’re the green leaves and acorns brown

Now nestled tightly in her crown.

She’s Mother Nature at her best

No season means that she’s at rest.

Summer, winter, autumn and spring

Emily still is “doing her thing!”
