Gary Hampton, 68, of Buffalo, NY, after fighting strong for 15 years against metastatic prostate cancer, passed away on June 24, 2023, in Ponte Vedra, Florida. Gary was born in Buffalo, New York to Hargis and Helen Hampton on February 16, 1955. He graduated from Henry B. Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, and he married Jill Hampton on January 2, 1993, in Jacksonville, Florida.
Gary touched the lives of many as a skilled electrician, most recently with the Jacksonville Transit Authority, as a top-notch Red Raiders girls’ softball coach, and “Dad” to anyone who entered our family home. Always a jokester, you knew you would leave any situation with a smile. Hobbies and loves included: the New York Yankees, Florida State Football, inshore and offshore fishing, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. But mostly, he loved to dance with his girls every chance he could and fish with his grandson and friends. With Jill, he built a family, “All because two people fell in love.”
Gary is survived by his wife, Jill; daughters, Holly (Chris Smith) and Jennifer (Davy Snipes); grandchildren: Lenzie, Rebecca, Emma, Parker, Cody; and great-grandchildren, Jillian and Harper; one sister: Priscilla (Jim Kirschbaum); brother-in-law, Robert (Rebecca Raitt); along with nieces and nephews: Derek (Arwen Guida), Cara (Dennis Donnelly), Alyson (Chris Driggers), Travis (Erin Raitt), and Alexis (David Ingram).
The Hampton family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to his doctor within the team of University of Florida Oncology (Baymeadows), along with the doctors at Ascension St. Vincent’s and Community Hospice within Baptist Medical South. Donations made to Community Hospice or to the American Cancer Society in Gary’s name would be treasured.
