George H. Moore, 73, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, passed away on April 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Rockville Centre, New York, George built a life defined by service, hard work, loyalty, humor, and a deep devotion to the people he loved.
Before entering the automotive industry, George served with Empire Hose Company #3 of the Merrick Fire Department in Merrick, New York, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Those years shaped him profoundly. He treasured the friendships forged in the firehouse, the adrenaline of answering calls at all hours, and the responsibility of serving his neighbors. Even decades later, he loved sharing stories from his time in Merrick, some humorous, some intense, all meaningful. His experience as a firefighter instilled in him the sense of duty, loyalty, and camaraderie that would define every chapter of his life.
In 1978, with the support and encouragement of his brother Stephen, George and his wife, Sharon, moved to Florida to begin, what would become, his lifelong career in the automotive industry. That opportunity set the foundation for the life and community he cherished for more than four decades. George went on to build a remarkable 40 year career as a Chevrolet dealer, pouring his heart and soul into the business and earning the respect of colleagues, customers, and the Beaches community he served. His classic personality, quick wit, and ability to make friends anywhere he went made him unforgettable.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, George spent his Sundays cheering on football and never missed a good NASCAR race. He cherished time with his six grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pops.” He adored his dogs Maci and Roo, along with his grand pups Benny, Breck, Marshall, and Pixie. Whether sharing stories at the local Irish pub or enjoying a game at a favorite sports bar, George brought laughter, warmth, and a good time everywhere he went.
George was preceded in death by his older brother, Peter Moore; and his parents, Clarence and Virginia Moore.
George is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Sharon Moore; and their children: Ginny Coarsey (Logan), Erin Moore, Samantha Moore (Ross Davis), and Justin Moore (Alanna). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Austin, Abigail, Cameron, Catherine, Amelia, and Lawson.
George is further survived by his siblings, Stephen Moore (Catherine), Patricia Peirano (John), and William Moore.
A funeral Mass will be held on May 2, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 545 A1A N, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in George’s memory.
George was the rock of his family and a cherished member of the Beaches community for more than 40 years. He lived life to the fullest, made every room brighter, and believed in making sure everyone around him had a good time. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
