Harold F. Neville, Jr., (Red) of Fleet Landing, Atlantic Beach, FL, passed away on October 16, 2018, surrounded by his beloved family, in Jacksonville, FL, after a long battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma. Born on May 6, 1936, in Lowell, MA, Harold leaves behind his loving wife, Carol, of 59 years; his two sons, Richard Paul (Amy) and Robert John of Hampton, NH; and his daughter, Karen Jean (William Cullen) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He also leaves his beloved three granddaughters: Courtney Neville of Washington, DC, Hannah Scott of Salem, MA, and Molly Scott of Fitchburg, MA; his brother, Donald Neville (Amelia) of Dracut, MA; his sister-in-law, Judith Neville (wife of his deceased brother, William Neville) of Pelham, NH, and his sisters-in-law Judith Scalese of Haverhill, MA, and Carole Yannalfo of Andover, MA. Additionally, he leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Harold graduated from Keith Academy, Lowell, MA, in 1954, and then earned a BS in Electronics Engineering from Lowell Technological Institute (now UMASS/ Lowell) in 1958. He further received a MS in Engineering Management from Northeastern University in 1969 and did advanced graduate studies at Northeastern University.
Harold became Chief Design Engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, ME, where he retired in 1986 after a successful 29-year career. He then started his second 29-year career in 1987, by joining his wife in her Financial Planning and Tax Management Business, Neville Associates, of Hampton, NH. As a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Investment Advisor in this business, Harold helped Carol serve their clients meet their financial needs and investment objectives until he retired in 2017.
Harold loved to garden, as well as drive his favorite John Deere tractor on his 75-acre farm in the White Mountains of NH. He loved animals and enjoyed reading and playing golf and cards with his friends. Mostly, though he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, with an incredible work ethic and an inspiring love of life. He will always be remembered for the gift he was to all of us who loved him.
Viewing will take place on October 22, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. John the Baptist Church, Atlantic Beach, FL, followed by interment at the Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
Calling hours will be held on November 3, 2018, from 9:30 to 11:00 am at St. Theresa Church in Rye Beach, NH, immediately followed by a Memorial Mass beginning at 11:00 am.
