On Monday, September 24, 2018, at 11:55 p.m., Jess S. Salinas, Sr., a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 84 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Remedios; three children, Joseph, Jess Jr., and Regina; grandchildren, Julian, Jack, Justin, Sydney, and Michael; son-in-law, Erwin; daughter-in-law, Barbara; cousin, Julie; grand-dog, Mojo; and several other family members. He was born on May 28, 1934, in Pangasinan, a province in the Philippines. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1983. 

He loved going fishing with his buddies and his grandkids at the Mayport Jetties, working in his garden, cooking and baking, and taking his grandkids to the South Beach Park. It is at this same park where he would buy them ice cream and popsicles from the ice cream truck and tell them not to tell Grandma. The boys also remember the times when he would take them to the store to buy chocolate milk and blocks of cheese after school. He also stole Julian’s shoes, which are the same ones that he’s wearing at this very moment. His favorite songs ranged from Elvis to the Marvelettes. Most of all, we can’t forget his collection of iconic baseball caps. He hardly ever left the house without wearing one (the Jaguar cap was his favorite).

The viewing will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018, from 6 pm - 8 pm at Ponte Vedra Valley’s Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, 11 am, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach. Immediately following Mass, a graveside service will be held at Ponte Vedra Valley.
