Ira Lee Chelette, 79, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, passed away October 31, 2016.  He was born in Logan, WV, to Clarence and Bennie Chelette on September 27, 1937.  Ira proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He worked as a mechanical engineer with Dow Industrial and later retired from French Based Schlumberger Technology Corp.  Ira was a faithful member of Ponte Vedra United Methodist Church, where he assisted with vacation bible school and was in the choir.  Ira was a member of the American Legion Post 233, volunteered with the Beaches Senior Center and gave his time to his community in many ways.  He enjoyed fishing, boating, white water rafting, camping and traveling the world.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Luther Chelette; children, Dennis A. Chelette and Margaret M. Chelette; son-in-law, Jimmie Patterson; step-children, Matt Bruton and Dana Bruton; grandchild, Christopher Chelette.  Ira is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Carolyn Chelette; sister, Ellen Newby; sister-in-law, Barbara; children, Clarence E. Chelette (Melanie), Renee Patterson; step-child, Forrest Tucker; grandchildren, Christi, Charity (Kiale), Dixie, Holly, Philip and Lindsay; great-grandchildren, Cammie, Kiale Jr, Colin, Cayleigh-Grace, Alanna, Vincent, Devin, Emmalyn; several cousins and many friends whose lives he touched in numerous ways.  Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 19 at Ponte Vedra United Methodist Church, 76 S Roscoe Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach, with fellowship to follow in the church hall.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida or the Ponte Vedra United Methodist Church General Fund.
