HORD Jack Clifford Hord, 66, peacefully passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, in the home overlooking his beloved Palm Valley Golf Course. Jack was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Mary and Clifford Hord. In 1965, he met and fell in love with Sue Brouillard, and they were married in 1969. Jack graduated from the University of West Georgia, in 1971, with a Master of Psychology Degree. He then moved to Florida where he became a psychologist for the state, all the while believing that human-beings are inherently good. After becoming a PGA professional and working at various golf courses in N. Florida, he bought Pro Golf Range in Jacksonville. Then in 1988 Jack purchased the land that is now Palm Valley Golf Course. He set out to transform a piece of Ponte Vedra into a place where people of all ages could come together, for the love of golf, and play the game at an affordable price. He designed and built a nine-hole golf course with three family members and two grounds crew employees. It was a labor of love, as Jack himself said, I feel like a sculptor when referring to his early years of work on the golf course. For, he turned an old horse farm into a beautiful landscaped golf course where families and friends could come to have fun and relax. In his later years, he pursued his final dream of exploring the country via motorcycle with his wife Sue. Jack was a man small in stature; but, he was a giant in character and morals. Jack leaves behind his wife, Susanne Hord; son, Christopher Hord; daughter, Julie Hord; adopted daughter, Billie Smith; sister, Tana Sellers; a loving nephew, Todd Sellers; many nieces and nephews; and all the wonderful customers (family) who have kept his dream alive. All are welcome for a celebration of Jack's life to be held Saturday, September 6, at 5 p.m., at Palm Valley Golf Course: 1075 Palm Valley Rd., Ponte Vedra, FL.
