Jack Roger SumnerPonte Vedra, FLJack Roger Sumner, Sr of Ponte Vedra, Florida died on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Mayo Hospital of natural causes surrounded by family. Jack was born in Atlanta, Georgia, July 6, 1946, to Oscar Leonard and Francis (Gary) Sumner. He graduated from Avondale High School in Avondale Estates, Georgia in 1964. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Coast Guard, based in Mayport, FL and earned the Coast Guard Commendation Medal for rescuing three people during a hurricane. After serving with the Coast Guard, Jack graduated from Georgia State University in 1969 with a degree in marketing and advertising. Upon graduation, he had the opportunity to join Terminix International, a subsidiary of Service Master, in Atlanta and eventually relocated in 1976 to West Virginia after purchasing several Terminix International franchises throughout the State. He was recruited back to the Terminix International corporate offices in Memphis, Tennessee in 1980 and joined as their National Sales Manager. Jack was later promoted to Divisional Vice-President of Operations. Jack took pride in his business accomplishments, but he truly relished the friends he made during his time in business. Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Lynne Sumner; his son, Jack Roger Sumner, Jr and his wife Karen and his three grandchildren Trey (Kathryn), Kayla, and Marc; his brother, Sam Gary Sumner and his wife Betty; and many friends both personal and professional. One of Jack's deepest sorrows was the early loss of his youngest son, Joseph Marc Sumner. Jack was also preceded in death by his brother, Leonard (Mary) Sumner. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Saint Francis in-the-Field, 895 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra, FL 32081. Reception following.
