Hanks, Jeanette R. (age 95) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at McGraw Community Hospice. Born April 23, 1926, in Atlantic City, NJ, to Selma and Fred Rose, Jeanette graduated from the Drexel University School of Nursing in 1947. With her RN degree in hand, Jeanette and her best friend Alice Helderman boarded the Orange Blossom Express train in Philadelphia with a footlocker and $100 and set out for warmer weather and hopefully a nursing job in Florida. After a week in Miami (too hot), they headed north to Jacksonville where Jeanette would be hired by St. Luke’s Hospital and begin her 65 year nursing career; meet and marry her late husband of 62 years, Don F. Hanks, and raise three children who loved and cherished her. Jeanette spent her entire life being of help and service to others. Her selfless and empathetic personality was a true hallmark of her character and those who knew her would agree that she never met a stranger. Jeanette will truly be missed by all knew and loved her.

Jeanette is survived by her three children, David F. Hanks, Janine R. Sterritt, and Donald F. Hanks; four grand-children, Brooke Knight, Jack Sterritt, Alyson Hanks, and Amelia Hanks; three great grand-children, Jonathan Knight, Grace Knight, and Levy Moulton; two nephews, David Rose and Anthony Rose.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery.
