Joey Lynn Malone, 51, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on October 1, 2025.  Born April 15, 1974, in Bristol, Tennessee, Joey was a gifted athlete from an early age.  After graduating from Tennessee High School, he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians as a pitcher and also received a full basketball scholarship to Wofford College, where he played for four years and graduated in 1996.

After graduating from college, Joey moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he began his career as a manager of an assisted living facility.  Two years later, he found his forever job with Stericycle Inc, where he worked for 27 years.  To Joey, his co-workers weren’t just colleagues – they were family.

Standing at 6’5” tall, Joey’s personality was bigger than life.  He knew no strangers.  His big bear hugs lifted you off the ground.  His charm was infectious, and his loyalty was unwavering.  To know Joey was to love Joey.

He was the consummate jokester.  Whether it was a bad dad joke, a fake insect, a prank phone call or drawing on his friends when they were asleep, Joey’s humor and mischief brought laughter to everyone around him.  His ability to make people smile was one of his greatest gifts.

He leaves behind a legacy of service, love and unforgettable memories.  Joey’s devoted commitment to service was evident in the countless lives he touched through his boundless kindness and generosity.  His actions spoke louder than words, leaving a legacy of compassion that continues to inspire all who knew him.

Joey was predeceased by his beloved mother, Betty Ann Earhart; father, Alden Malone; and sister, Jama Beth Malone.  He is survived by his proudest accomplishment, daughter, Addison Malone; brother, Freddie Malone; nephews, Brody Malone and Charlie Miller, niece, Rory Miller; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who loved him deeply.

A celebration of life will be held on November 10, 2025 at 6:30PM at The Gymnasium at Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.  A service will also be held on December 22, 2025 at 5:30PM at Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church in Bluff City, Tennessee.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida are welcomed as well as to Joey’s Tennessee Volunteers at give.tennessee.edu.
