John Francis Reda, 100, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, passed away January 5, 2023.

John Reda was born in Calabria, Italy in 1922, and emigrated with his family to New York City at the age of seven, the eldest of four children. Growing up in the Bronx during the Great  Depression, taught John valuable lessons that remained with him throughout his life: the value of hard work, family togetherness, and ingenuity. John also believed strongly in education, finishing high school and technical school all while working to help support his family.

In 1943, John joined the Air Force and served his country as an air bomber engine mechanic based in the Philippines, another experience that left an indelible mark on his life. Following his service, he returned to New York and started a dress manufacturing business in the Bronx, near Yankee Stadium, where he had worked as a school boy. John was a successful entrepreneur, focusing meticulously on the quality of his shop’s work. He also took advantage of his position to provide jobs for family members from Italy as well as other immigrants.

John married the love of his life, Josephine Maria Bruno, in 1954. Together they had three beautiful daughters who they raised in Westchester County, NY. Soon after retiring, in 1994, John moved to Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida, where he lived for the remainder of his life. During retirement, John continued his interest in gardening, reading, current events and history.  He  maintained his steadfast focus on his health and well-being -- a great role model to all.

John is remembered by his family - Mary, daughters, grandchildren, in-laws, extended family and friends - for his integrity, intelligence, sense of humor and for his probing, curious intellect. John formed his own unique opinions about everything and he was a determined problem solver - he could fix anything. He loved telling jokes to his grandkids as well as imparting valuable life lessons. He was always available, supportive and loving.

John is survived by Josephine Mary, daughters Carol, Marcella and Patricia, and grandchildren John, Brittany, Stephen, Chelsea and Juliana as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John celebrated his 100th birthday in October 2022 surrounded by family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, January 8, 2023, 2 pm, at Ponte Vedra Valley with Father William Kelly officiating.

Services will be livestreamed directly below the obituary beginning approximately ten minutes before the start of the service.
