MENTEL John Robert (Bob) Mentel passed away June 14, 2014. He was born to James and Celeste Mentel in Pinckneyville, Illinois, on April 30, 1931. He had four brothers and three sisters. Bob attended Southern Illinois University. Upon completion he joined the U.S. Army. Bob took leave in July 1953 to go home and marry his sweetheart, Donna. At the end of his service he moved back to Illinois and began his 50+ years in the life insurance business with Metropolitan Life and Minnesota Mutual. Bob spent the years working and raising his family in Alton and Chicago, Illinois and St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri. Twelve years ago they moved to the Villages and had a decade of fun with many dear friends. Everyone who knew him knew of his love for golf. He played often and boy did he have game. Bob's faith and family were the most important things in his life. His wife Donna of 61 years, his 4 children, 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. We would like to thank the staff of Clare Bridge Memory Center at Cypress Village for the great care and love they gave to Mr. Bob. We will never forget. Bob is survived by his wife Donna; son, John (Donna) Mentel; daughter, Jane (Mike) Lewis; son, Jeff (Cindi) Mentel; daughter, Julie (Dan) Wagner; grandchildren, Brian, Nick, Alex, Tracey, Betsy, Michael, Jennifer, Emily, Michael, Katie, Caroline, Cole, Kathryn, Annalise, Ellie, Jack, and Charlie; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Alex; sisters, Theresa Dobrinick and Joan (Bernard) Epplin. A visitation at 10 a.m. and Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. will be held on Thursday, June 19 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church 545 A1A North, Ponte Vedra Beach.
