Juan Jose Barberis, 46, was born on August 19, 1974 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Carlos and Elisabeth Barberis. He spent his early childhood years in Argentina until his family moved back to the United States and built a life in Jacksonville, Florida. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, he enjoyed sailing, soccer, golf, swimming, and making memories with his brother, Carlos Jr. and their friends. He showed love and support for his mother and father through his kind and sincere actions throughout every day of his life.
Jose graduated from The Bolles School and continued his education at Florida State University. He completed his education at Oglethorpe University and earned a Master's degree as a Certified Financial Advisor. Jose’s father, Carlos, describes Jose as his “Work of Art.” Jose was an incredibly intelligent man, full of knowledge and guidance for all those who knew and loved him. Jose was a savvy businessman and built successful companies from the ground up. He was a man who was filled with motivation, determination, and insight into taking calculated risks to achieve a high reward. Throughout all his success in business, he was a humble man and wasn’t one to boast about his flourishing achievements.
An avid, nautical enthusiast, Jose enjoyed spending his time on the water and owned several boats throughout his lifetime. Throughout his adult life, he continued to take pleasure in swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. He was a well-traveled man, who was always planning the next adventure with his great love of the last 15 years of his life, Nancy Johnsen. He was almost always seen with a camera in his hand and captured every vacation and special milestone of their life together. Jose was a Family Man and filled a fatherly role to Nancy’s children Shane, Paige, and Chad.
Jose was a very caring and giving man. He showed his appreciation for his loved ones through acts of service. His family and friends paint the picture of a selfless man who genuinely cherished the people around him. If you were someone special in Jose’s life, it’s without a doubt that your last memory of him includes Jose going the extra mile to do something kind for you.
Jose passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 17, 2021. His memory will be honored and cherished by his father and mother, Carlos and Elisabeth Barberis; his brother, Carlos and his wife, Amanda; his great love and longtime companion, Nancy Johnsen; and children, Shane Pilcher, Paige Rosenberger, and Chad Johnsen. Jose will forever be in our hearts.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021, 11 am at Ponte Vedra Valley. The funeral will be livestreamed directly below this obituary starting approximately ten minutes before the service and will also be available for future viewing.
