It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman, Judith Suzanne Zeligson (nee Schlesinger). She passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at the age of 92. A loving mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she brought warmth, kindness, and strength to everyone she met.
Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1932, an only child, Judy was always the heart of her family, known for her compassion and unwavering support. She was raised in Michigan from the age of 3. After she and Dan married, they moved to Cleveland and in Beachwood they raised their family. Judy was the typical 1950’s homemaker. Their home was the one where all the neighborhood kids gathered and they called her “Mom”. She could always be found at school, volunteering as a room mother or at the school clinic. Judy was a very active and lifelong member of ORT and Hadassah and enjoyed bowling and playing mahj jong and canasta. She and Dan travelled the world together. Since the 1990’s, they spent their winters in Florida and made lifelong friends of the people they met along the way from around the globe. In 2017, they made Jacksonville their permanent home.
Judy’s commitment, generosity and wit left a lasting impact on her family and community. Her legacy of love will continue to inspire all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love that she so generously shared during her time with us.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Daniel; children, Debra, Lauren (Dr. Donn) and Ronald (Robin); grandchildren, Daryl, Michael, Heather, Shana, Brandon, Peggy and William; and 10 great grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may donate to Chabad of St. John’s County or Community Hospice and Palliative Care.
A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024, 10 am at Ponte Vedra Valley, 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082.
Family will receive friends at the home of Donn and Laurie Kirschenbaum on Sunday, following the service and interment, until 6 pm.
