Lamar Braxton, age 74, of St. Augustine, passed away Monday August 12, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born August 14, 1944, the oldest of three children, to the late Milton Columbus Braxton and Johnnie Sue Braxton of Winter Haven, FL.

Lamar graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1962 and attended Saint Petersburg Junior College in Saint Petersburg, FL. After school he worked for several prominent engineering and construction companies. In 1974 he founded Ortega Industrial Contractors, based in Jacksonville, FL.

Lamar had an unparalleled zest for life and adventure! As a teenager he played with “ The Legends” a garage band in Winter Haven, FL, with Gram Parsons and Jim Stafford. He raced in SCCA formula Vee events and was an avid outdoorsman. He was immensely generous, kind, loyal and taught us to live life to the fullest.

Lamar will live on in our hearts, minds, thoughts and prayers forever. He is survived and remembered with much love by his children, Amanda Braxton Durrance ( Troy), David Lamar Skelly( Janeen), Jordan Hove Jonas (Daniel) and Harrison Hove; brother, Ronald Braxton(Ellen); sister, Susan Morris (Chuck); grandchildren, Zachary Braxton, Brennan Skelly, Janna Porter, Amelia Jonas; and numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of close personal friends.

Lamar’s family will host a Celebration of Life Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 3:00-6:00pm at Art ‘n Motion, 283 San Marco Ave., St. Augustine, FL, 32084. Casual attire.
