Larry Anthony Bauer, 79, passed away at his home on December 17, 2024.
Born on September 24, 1945, in Redbud, Illinois, he attended Chester High School and New Mexico Highlands University, where he graduated with a degree in math and science. After college, he joined the Navy where he flew attack aircraft for over 20 years and retired as a decorated naval aviator. While attending the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, he received his master's degree from Salve Regina University. After his military service, Larry transitioned to commercial aviation flying for Pan Am, DHL, and United Airlines.
Larry enjoyed tennis, bowling, and especially golf where he formed special friendships. Larry traveled all over the world, and even fulfilled a lifelong dream of seeing the pyramids in Egypt. He loved history, gardening, and painting meaningful scenes for family and friends. However, his favorite activity was watching his grandsons play baseball.
Larry touched many lives with his positive attitude, resilience, and humor. His bravery, courage, and determination were evident throughout his life.
Larry is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Joan, his adored daughter, Sally, and her husband, Scott, grandsons Jack and Nate, brother Jerry, and his wife Jill, and many other loving family members, including wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his beloved son Michael, his sisters Betty and Millie, and his parents Ralph and Hilda Bauer.
Interment will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery on January 3, 2025, at 11:00 A.M.
A celebration of life will be held at The Yards Greenhouse in Sawgrass Players Club, on January 3, 2025, from 4:00 P.M.to 7:00 P.M.
