LEELA IYENGAR

August 25, 1936 – April 16, 2025

Leela was the second daughter in a closely knit family of six children. She worked for over forty years as a Mathematics and Science teacher, in Carmel Convent School, Durgapur (West Bengal) and Bangalore (Karnataka) and was loved by her students, who are now in successful careers and located all over the world .

She married Mr. R. S. K. Iengar, a geologist who worked for the Steel Authority of India Ltd at Durgapur. She was an expert in Carnatic classical music and was very passionate about devotional singing. The family events, be it weddings or other cultural events, would not be complete without Leela singing. Her three children were born and raised at Durgapur, in the early days and are now in USA and Canada. She loved to cook and even now her children, grandchildren, siblings or niece and nephews remember her snacks and goodies.

She moved to the USA as a permanent resident in 2015 to live with her daughter and son-in-law and became an integral part of the Jacksonville community.

She is survived by her sons, Madan and Mohan, daughter Suparna, daughters-in-law Rohini and Roshni, and son-in-law Abhinava, three grandchildren, Nikita, Achyutha and Aditi.
