Lowell David Wood, 83 years old, of Ponte Vedra Beach, passed away December 14, 2023. Lowell was born on May 11, 1940.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice; son, Joel; daughter, Courtney; granddaughter, Madison Blue; brother, Glenn; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, and additional family members and friends he had collected over his life.

We are still waking to the realization that he will not physically hug us, dance with us, laugh with us, kid us, and walk through life with us.  Lowell was the youngest of seven children.  He grew up in Chehalis, Washington, and graduated from W. F. West Hight School in 1958.  After serving time in the military, he moved to Ohio to attend college where he received a bachelor of Education degree.  Lowell met his wife, Janice, while attending college.  After graduation, they married and moved to sunny and warm Florida.  While living in Florida, Lowell received a master’s degree from the University of North Florida and became a teacher and a college basketball coach.

Lowell left coaching and teaching to become a hospital administrator and started his own consulting firm doing capital campaigns for worldwide, not-for-profit organizations.  He spent several years working in his home town of Chehalis, Washington, and completed two major campaigns for the Chehalis Public Library and for Centralia College.

Lowell was an avid lover of the outdoors and spent his summers in the mountains enjoying the serene beauty. His love for the outdoors was surpassed by the love he had for his family and friends. Lowell spent his leisure time hiking in the mountain, walking the beach, and playing basketball and golf. He traveled the world with his wife.

If you were lucky enough to be his friend, you knew that Lowell had a quick wit and a sense of humor that was uniquely his own.  He could always make you laugh. We will always remember Lowell as kind hearted, fun, witty, and a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and friend.  Lowell went peacefully home to be with his Lord.  He was greatly loved and his humor, and compassion lives on.

No formal services will be held.  A Celebration of Life will be planned at the Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church, 4510 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, on Friday, January 19, 4:00.
