MARCIA ANN “MARCY” SILKEBAKEN

Born July 9, 1952 – At Rest June 21, 2016

Marcia Ann “Marcy” Silkebaken passed away peacefully in her home June 21, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. Born July 9, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, to Frank M. and Charlotte Silkebaken.  After attending Belle Plaine High School and Iowa State University, Marcy embarked on a life filled with laughter, happiness and creativity.  She was a flight attendant, designer, artist, community activist, advertising and post production executive.  More than anything, though, Marcy was a loving and caring mom and wife. Independent, fiercely loyal and grounded, Marcy’s view of life was through an open and compassionate lens.  She explored the back alleys, the off-the-beaten paths and always found the beauty and uniqueness in people, places and things.  Growing up in the small east central Iowan town of Belle Plaine, Marcy’s adventures would take her to Washington DC, Chicago, and Orlando and eventually to her home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.  With her simple and straightforward Midwestern charm, she made lifelong friends easily and was always eager to welcome those friends into her home.  After her arrival in Ponte Vedra Beach, she set her sights on two main goals: raising her daughter, Elizabeth, and teaching her the core values of life, and advocating for preserving the quality of life in Ponte Vedra and Palm Valley.  Among her numerous civic accomplishments, she led the development of the addition of sidewalks throughout Palm Valley, was a founding Board Member of the North Florida Land Trust, worked tirelessly on the Architectural Review Board to ensure the continued beauty of the community, battled with developers over questionable variances, and, in general, worked with St. Johns County officials for the betterment of our community.  She was a true community advocate in the very best sense of the word.  And she was an amazing mom and wife.  Marcy is survived by her husband, John E. “Jack” Peter, her daughter, Elizabeth Silkebaken Peter, her mother Charlotte Silkebaken, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, sisters, Kristen Zangerle of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Amy Silkebaken, Denver, Colorado, brother Dennis Silkebaken, Coralville, Iowa, and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and Northeast Florida Hospice.  May she rest in peace.  A Memorial Service and Celebration of Marcy's life will be held at TPC Sawgrass, 11 am on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Funeral arrangements are being made by Ponte Vedra Valley, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, (904) 285-1130.
