Margaret (Peggy) H. Hoefnagel, age 94, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, died peacefully on February 9, 2024. She was born in Boston, MA and was married to Dr. Dick Hoefnagel, a Professor at the Dartmouth Medical School, for over 57 years. He predeceased her in 2013.

Although no funeral services will be held in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, a gathering of friends and family will be planned later this year in Etna, NH, where Peggy's ashes will be scattered alongside Dick's.

Peggy was the daughter of Francis T. Hunter, MD and Margaret Weld Hunter of Chestnut Hill, MA. Peggy is survived by her daughter Erica R. de la Uz and husband Javier, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Hans K. Hoefnagel and wife Sasinee of Lop Buri, Thailand. Also surviving Peggy is her granddaughter Holland E. Ragland and great granddaughter Elliott Jane Ragland of Roanoke, VA.

A longtime member of the Hanover New Hampshire Garden Club, she worked countless hours in the town gardens and greenhouses on their behalf. She also volunteered for many years at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center - Pink Smock Gift Shop. In 2013 when Peggy moved from Etna to The Greens of Hanover, she continued her love of gardening at the facility. In appreciation for her efforts a plaque was placed in her honor commemorating "Peggy's Garden."

At 90, she made her final move to Florida where she spent her remaining years making wonderful friends at Starling Independent Living in Nocatee. Her enjoyment of the outdoors and nature was matched only by her love for dogs, particularly golden retrievers, her passion for cooking in her farmhouse kitchen in Etna and her enthusiasm for worldwide travel and adventure.

In memory of Peggy, contributions can be made in her name to the Jacksonville Humane Society, 8464 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32216 or the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route 10, Enfield, NH, 03748.

Our deepest thanks to Community Hospice of Northeast FL for their support and care of Peggy during her final weeks. And a special thanks to Ms. Charlie, the Hospice therapy dog, as those visits were a true highlight for Peggy during her final weeks.
