Mark Carney, 67, of Ponte Vedra, Florida, passed away Tuesday morning, August 1, 2023, from cardiac arrest. He was born in Fort Meade, Maryland. He was preceded in death by Herbert and Violet (Jones) Carney. His mother, Violet, died in May of this year and his brother Wayne (Nancy Cambell) died on June 23rd this year. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Audrey Dodson. They share daughters, Donna Helsel and Jeanne Kephart (Ken); a grand-daughter, Bethany Helsel; a grandson Christian Harr (Aphy); and a great-grandson, Tommy Harr. He was also survived by his aunt Betty (Jones) Grant and Uncle Jack and Aunt Ida Jones.
Mark was a 1973 graduate of Blacklick Valley High School in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2015, with 30 years of service. Mark was well liked by his family, friends, neighbors. Also, children of all ages were always enamored by his playful spirit.
He loved shore-fishing and walking the beach to find sharks teeth to add to his collection. He especially enjoyed taking his boat onto the Intracoastal Waterway to go crabbing and to fish. He had a green thumb that showed in his vegetable container garden. His favorite outdoor pastime was watching the birds fly in and out from his backyard feeder.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
