ROBINSON Mary Elizabeth Betsy Quayle Robinson May 5, 1937- September 28, 2014 Betsy Robinson was born in Cleveland, OH on May 5, 1937, the eldest daughter of Mary Waddell Quayle and John Harrison Quayle, Jr. At an early age, Betsy moved to and lived in Stamford, CT and pursued her life's passion for horseback riding at the New Canaan Mounted Troop. As a junior and adult rider, she competed in hunter/jumper class, ultimately riding in the Maclay at Madison Square Garden. Later in her equestrian endeavors, she rode dressage. Horses, including her first, Danny Meadow Mouse, followed her for 60 years through Choate Rosemary Hall, Smith College, three sons, and a marriage of 55 years to Malcolm W. Robinson, Jr. Betsy lived a full and rewarding life and embraced it with enthusiasm and moxie. As part of many moves with IBM Corp., she and her family lived in Harrisburg and Valley Forge, PA, Ponte Vedra, Wilton, CT, Paris, France, then Wilton, CT again, then returned to Ponte Vedra, and most recently in St. Augustine. She cherished her years in France during the 1970s, where she learned to love a European lifestyle replete with 6 weeks of vacation. She rode on furrowed trails, learned how to cook at the Cordon Bleu, and sailed with her husband, her boys, and friends on bare boat charters stopping all over Europe. Ponte Vedra Beach was home after retirement, as Betsy and Mal loved their great friends and times in PVB during the 1960s, living on Pablo Road with a monkey named Face that ruled over the atrium garden and laid waste to sport coats, beehive hairdos, and martinis. Face's antics notwithstanding, unstinting hospitality and an always open door were the hallmarks of any place Betsy and Mal called home on both sides of the Atlantic. She was a talented gardener, an animal lover, a voracious reader, a devoted wife, and a loving and encouraging mother to her sons, who will miss her very much. Betsy is survived by her husband Malcolm Weeks Robinson, Jr., her three sons: Malcolm Weeks Robinson, III of Westport, CT; John Scott Robinson of Boxboro, MA; and James Quayle Robinson, of Palm City, FL and seven grandchildren: Chelsea Smith and Sydney, Olivia, Matthew, Caroline, and twins Casey Jane and Claudia Robinson, as well as her siblings, Tracy Quayle Lutz of Hamilton, MA and John Harrison Quayle, III of Guilford, CT, and her beloved Jack Russell terrier, Otis. The service will be held Tuesday, October 14 at 11-12 to receive guests; and then a memorial service between 12-1 will follow to remember Betsy: Ponte Vedra Valley 4750 Palm Valley Road Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida 32082 http://www.pontevedravalley.com/ index.html 904-285-1130.
