Mary Ronan Megley, 84, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022 at her home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. She was born to Edgar and Mildred Ellis in Brooklyn, New York. Mary relocated to the Ponte Vedra area from Lake Forest, Illinois with her husband, Richard, in 1998. She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, was a member of the Sawgrass Country Club and a Jacksonville Symphony subscriber. Mary graduated from Russell Sage College with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Nursing and received her Master’s in Education from Salem State College. Mary met her husband while attending Russell Sage and they lived in Massachusetts for several decades before relocating to Illinois. While in Massachusetts, she worked as a registered nurse in different health care settings and as a substitute teacher. When she relocated to Illinois, she obtained a real estate license and embarked on her career as a residential realtor.
Mary was smart, witty, independent and social, orchestrating her life according to her own arrangement. She relished the time she spent with family and friends and traveled extensively for visits and adventures with them. She was active and energetic; in her life she gathered no moss. Mary is survived by her son, Richard (Susan); two daughters, Deirdre (Thomas) Kvale and Julia (Patrick) Lagrange; two brothers, Ronan (Harriet) Ellis and Bruce Ellis; six grandchildren, Michael, Andrew and Anna Lagrange, Margaret and Nicholas Kvale, and Connor Megley; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Richard and sister-in-law, Cynthia Ellis. Mary was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she will be truly missed by everyone who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2022 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra. Interment will follow at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery, 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida (904-285-1130).
