Michael Palmer Diffenderffer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at the age of 84, in his cherished home of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Born on March 3, 1941, in Springfield, Missouri, to Edward and Alice (Elliott) Diffenderffer, Mike lived a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication to his family, friends and his career.
Mike’s early education began at Greenwood School in Springfield, culminating in his graduation from Parkview High School in 1958. After graduation, Mike committed to join the Marine Corps Reserve and was stationed in San Diego. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at Drury College, earning a liberal arts degree, and later attended the University of Missouri School of Journalism, laying the foundation for a successful career in public relations.
In 1966, Mike married the love of his life, Judith K. Orcutt, and together they embarked on a journey of creating a life together. Their move to Dallas in 1968 marked the beginning of a remarkable professional chapter for Mike, as he took on the role of Regional Public Relations Director at Sears & Roebuck Company. He furthered his career at the Club Corporation of America, where he made significant contributions as a key leader. In 1986, he and his family moved to Florida as he accepted the position of National Membership and Marketing Director with the Tournament Players Clubs, until his retirement in 2006.
A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Mike cherished the moments spent at Spring Training games in Florida, where he could be found cheering for his team. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of friends on the golf course and treasured afternoons spent at Metro Diner, sharing stories and laughter. Mike found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often relaxing on the porch with a cold beer and his loyal dog, Carly.
In retirement, Mike and Judy embraced the opportunity to travel, creating lasting memories on numerous cruises and adventures together. Their bond, strengthened over 58 years of marriage, was a testament to their friendship and love.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Judy; his sister, Ann Walther of St. Louis, Missouri; his children, Andrew (Erin) Diffenderffer of Marietta, Georgia, and Cathryn Hauptman of Sylvania, Ohio; and his cherished grandchildren, James and Molly Diffenderffer, and Jackson, Anna, and Luke Hauptman. He is also survived by his niece and nephew, Julie (Scott) Schiebel and Chip (Heather) Walther, along with their families.
A celebration of life honoring Mike will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together to share their memories and celebrate the remarkable man he was. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to K9’s for Warriors or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Mike will be deeply missed, but his humor and love for life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
