Nancy Jeanne Blackburn Smith

Nancy Jeanne Smith passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Jacksonville, Florida.

Jeanne was born on April 9, 1936, in Fleetwood, North Carolina to Spencer Theodore Blackburn and Doris Beshears Blackburn.

She graduated from Fleetwood High School and attended National Business School in Roanoke, VA.

Jeanne married Thomas Basil Smith on September 2, 1956, in Boone, NC

She was an Assistant Finance Director for Watauga County and a full charge accountant for the Watauga County Transportation Authority. Jeanne and Basil were also the owners/operators of Smith’s Store, Blue Ridge Motor Court, and Fun and Wheels Amusement Park in Boone, NC.

After moving to Jacksonville, FL, Jeanne was the church secretary for Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church and School where she was a member.

Jeanne enjoyed traveling to Europe and participating in Mission trips with Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Smith of Durham, NC, Beverly Blunck, and her husband, Scott Blunck of St. Augustine, FL. Two grandchildren, Caroline Blunck of St. Augustine, FL, and Tristan Campos of Durham, NC. Her nieces are Joy McNutt of Oglethorpe, GA, Candy Davis of Jacksonville, FL, and Sherry Edwards and husband Roger Edwards of Lewisville, NC. Sister-in-law, Gail Blackburn of Fleetwood, NC. Grandniece, Hillary McNutt, and Grandnephew, Jason Edwards.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, Basil Smith, her parents, her brother Jackie Blackburn, and her sister Laura Ann Blackburn Davis.  

Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church, 7860 Southside Blvd., Jacksonville, FL  32256
