Oksana Mostowycz, born on December 7, 1923, in Western Ukraine, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion.
After surviving the hardships of war, she emigrated to the United States in the late 1950s with her beloved husband, Leonidas Mostowycz, whom she met in medical school in Innsbruck, Austria. Though she set aside her medical career to dedicate herself fully to her family, Oksana’s passion for education never waned. She shared her knowledge as a professor of German and French at the University of Kentucky. Fluent in five languages, she was a woman of remarkable intellect and grace.
Above all, Oksana was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her son, Dr. Mark Alexander Mostovych, his wife Rhonda, and their children Alexander, Sophia, and Stefan; her daughter, Irene Eva Deychakiwsky, her husband Yuri, and their children Dmitri, Dennis(Mara), and Daniel. In addition to her own children, Oksana lovingly raised two orphans, Andrew and Anna, after the tragic loss of her husband’s brother and his family in a car accident. She is also survived by Andrew’s children, Nadia(Justin) and Nicholas(Gabby) and three great grandchildren.
Oksana outlived her husband of 65 years by 13 years and remained the heart of her family-a selfless, endlessly loving presence whose warmth and wisdom touched all who knew her.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Ponte Vedra Valley in Palm Valley. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held in her honor. She was an angel on earth, and her kindness, generosity, and love will be deeply missed.
