Peter Ernest Bouras, the son of Greek immigrants Ernest and Terpsichore Bouras, was born in Peabody, MA on June 29, 1930. He passed away on October 30, 2018 in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

Peter graduated from Northeastern University and then served in the United States Army.  Returning home, he wed Mary Tomaris, with whom he had three children and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Vasiliki. Peter is survived by his children, Diane (Theodore) Moshos, Terry (Todd) Bolin and Dr. Ernest (Olga) Bouras and grandchildren Colby (Britta) and Brady (Brianna) Bolin, Mary and Luke Moshos and Valentina and Peter Bouras. He is also survived by his brother James (Esta) Bouras, sister-in-law Freda (Dr. Peter) Capernaros, nephews Ernest and Dimitri Bouras and niece Danae Capernaros.   

In 1965, Peter’s business career brought him to Jacksonville, FL. An active member of the Arlington Rotary Club, he was a Paul Harris Fellow. After retirement, Peter began a second career in Clinical Pastoral Care, serving as a staff chaplain at Mayo Clinic for 14 years before taking his final retirement at the age of 80.

A man of faith and strength of character, Peter was a 53 year member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, where he served in various leadership roles, including president of the parish council. In 2001, Peter was ordained a Subdeacon of the Holy Orthodox Church. He was an emeritus board member of St. Photios Shrine in St. Augustine.  Honored by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America with the medal of St. Paul in 1985, he was inducted into the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle as an Archon by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1992.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Trisagion and funeral service at 10:00 AM on November 2, 2018 at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church (3850 Atlantic Boulevard Jacksonville, FL 32207) followed by a traditional Makaria (Mercy Meal) held in the church hall.  Interment will follow the Makaria at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery (4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082).  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the St. Photios Shrine (41 St George St, St. Augustine, FL 32084) or St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church.
