Ralph A. D’Angelo, age 74, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL passed away on January 23, 2024, with his wife, Yoko, and beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Beatrix, by his side following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on July 12, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY to Pasquale and Helen D’Angelo. He graduated from Island Trees High School in 1967, and then attended the Stevens Institute of Technology, where he built life-long friendships with his brothers at Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.

He began his successful, fifty-year journey in loss prevention and risk analysis with Factory Mutual, Continental Oil Company (CONOCO), Brown and Root Inc., going on to spend a majority of his career in the insurance and risk management consulting industry.  He went on to hold senior leadership positions with Marsh McLennan, Benfield Corporate Risk, and Aon plc.

Ralph leaves behind a legacy of industry best practices and accomplishments following decades of consulting on behalf of the energy insurance market. He will be fondly remembered for his loyalty and generosity towards his friends and colleagues alike. Professionally, he was widely admired for his commitment to mentoring and his influence on a future generation of insurance leaders. These professional relationships spanned the globe, and many became close, personal friendships.

Ralph was fortunate to have traveled to all seven continents, including Antarctica, over the span of his career, but the country he frequented the most, and for which he developed a great affinity, was Japan. It was here where he built over 35 years of long-term relationships with clients (friends) representing two of Japan’s largest energy companies and where, most importantly, he first met Yoko, his wife of 32 years.

Beyond his remarkable career, Ralph had a passion for the game of golf, which began in high school, and continued throughout his life.  He was a very skilled player and became an overseas member at the St. Andrews Golf Club and the Carnoustie Golf Club, both in Scotland. In recent years, he and Yoko also became members of TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, where they were planning to enjoy a happy and well-deserved retirement life with friends and family.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Yoko; his three children from a previous marriage: Geoffrey D’Angelo (Susan), Melissa D’Angelo, Thomas D’Angelo (Tammy); his grandchildren: Gabriel D’Angelo, Ethan D’Angelo, Kahla Runge (Carl), Anthony D’Angelo, Natalya D’Angelo; his niece, Cheryl Egher (Daniel) and nephews, Richard Soltero (Rosanne) and Satoru Yamaguchi (Aiko); and his sister-in-law, Hiroko Yamaguchi (Takashi).

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Soltero; and his brother-in-law, Richard Soltero.

Ralph’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 10:30 am at the Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home located at 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach FL 32082.
