Raymond Michael O’Steen died on February 20, 2024, at age 81. He leaves behind his loving wife, Lois; three children, two grandchildren, a constellation of close friends, and his beloved dog, Maisie. Ray came from humble beginnings but saw to it that he was not defined by them. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1965 and went on to own two residential hotels in downtown Jacksonville before building a successful land development business. Ray’s influence on the Jacksonville map will endure as the city grows. Unannounced to the outside world, he had a remarkable soft spot and was a lifelong donor to children’s charities and animal rescue organizations. Ray will be remembered for his love of animals—especially dogs—and especially Maisie. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the children’s or animal rescue charity of your choice.
