Rebecca Ireland Moorhead 1954-2021
Rebecca (‘Becky’) Ireland Moorhead passed away Sunday September 19, 2021. She was born on June 19, 1954, in Cherry Point, North Carolina, to Charles and Helen (Hanks) Ireland, two navy veterans.
Becky’s career in caring for others began in Florida when she was 13 years old as a Candy Striper volunteer in Jacksonville area hospitals. After graduating in 1972 from Forrest High School (leading her team to the National Cheerleading Championship in the process), she then became a nurse, graduating from Grady Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. While working in Jacksonville, she met Dr. John Moorhead of Findlay, Ohio, and married him in 1978. After having two boys Adam and Ryan, she decided to return to medical school at USF Tampa to continue to pursue her career. After becoming ‘Dr. Becky’, she opened a private practice in OB/GYN medicine and later moved with the family to Ponte Vedra Beach.
Becky was known for being a smart woman and a wonderful cook. She looked forward to creating special holiday meals for her extended family, and she would bake you the BEST birthday cake. She loved walking on the beach with her friends in the bright Florida sunshine. Always eager to lend a helping hand, Becky spent several years volunteering at Mission House, a local ministry for homeless adults. Her favorite trips were to the Canadian Rockies with her husband and family, enjoying the beautiful serenity of Lake Louise.
Becky is survived by her sons, Adam Christopher Moorhead and John Ryan Moorhead; sisters ,Nancy Ireland, Sharon Lewis, and Patty Hosch; a niece, Haley (Hosch) Meier; and her two dachshunds, Kit and Kaboodle.
At her request, her remains will be scattered at sea.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 1st at 6pm, at Beaches Chapel Church, 610 Florida Blvd, Neptune Beach, FL, 32266.
