Richard K. Carty, 74, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida.

The eldest of two children, he was born in Boston, to Benjamin and Beverly Carty (deceased), of Marshfield, Massachusetts.  After graduating from Marshfield High School, he went on to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in retailing from Syracuse University.

Richard’s innate creative talent provided him opportunities throughout his career to work in many areas of retail: home furnishings, men’s fashion, specialty retail and education.  With these opportunities came frequent relocations, moving him to many cities: Boston, Atlanta, Seattle, San Francisco, New York and more, till he arrived in Ponte Vedra, Florida.  He continued using his talents through retirement, as he planned and developed many of the annual events in his Del Webb Ponte Vedra community.

Richard shared his life with his partner (Jim Gosdin, predeceased) for 27 years.  As their careers guided their moves to different cities, each new place they lived quickly became their home to welcome friends and family alike. Travel, fine dining, good company, and conversation were at the heart of what they truly enjoyed resulting in lifelong friendships.

Richard’s love of flowers, gardening and cooking was evident. Whether it was a meal at home, at the Garden Club or an event for Del Webb, there were always beautiful arrangements to complement the food.

He is survived by: sister, Susan Felices (Jose); nephews, Michael Felices (Kaylie) and Paul Felices; Jim’s daughter, Jennifer Crawford (Tray); and granddaughter, Madison Crawford.

The celebration of life service will be held Friday, June 2, 2023, 11 am, at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home, with reception immediately following.  Please join us with a story that will bring a smile to the faces of family and friends.
